The pumo, the Apulian symbol par excellence, has a shape similar to that of the buds that are about to open and to bloom a new life. In fact, in southern popular culture, the pumo symbolizes prosperity and fertility and has an apotropaic and propitiatory function of good omen in defense of evil. The term pumo derives from the Latin pomum, or fruit, and is linked to the cult of the goddess Pomona, an ancient Roman goddess of fruits. The pumo by Cinzia Fasano, a renowned ceramist from Grottaglie, is available in three sizes: S (12 x 10 cm), M (20 x 15 cm) and L (23 x 17 cm).
